Problem After 40
Bleeding problems in women are common especially above 40 years. In a woman having abnormal and/or heavy vaginal bleeding, the possibilities could be:-such as Fibroid Uterus, Adenomyosis etc. There is no obvious cause & the bleeding is due to hormonal variations. This is called as Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB)

Various forms of medication used are:-
  1. Non-hormonal Drugs.
  2. Hormonal Drugs
The above forms of medical treatments are effective but the benefit may not last for very long. In such situations the patient will require alternative treatment. In present times modern modalities are available. Those are simple, safe, effective and are day care procedures that do not require even one night stay in the hospital.

is still the last answer, and one of the commonest surgeries performed by the gynecologist. Breakthrough advances have taken place and nowadays hysterectomy is done laparoscopically and patient is discharged on the same day or the next day.
Conventional hysterectomy (vaginal & abdominal) involves minimum hospital stay of two nights and three days, average is three nights and four days

Menopause is an important milestone in the lives of the women. It is also related to aging. It occurs when the follicles in the ovary are depleted and there is a decline in the hormone levels.Hot flushes, Vaginal dryness, Urinary frequency and urgency are the most common symptoms. Hormone deprivation also has a long-term implications. It causes bone loss, alterations in the lipid profile which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Thus, screening test are routinely advised by the gynaecologist. The aim here is to improve ones quality of life. The other objectives are to identify the risks factors and silent diseases if any.

Apart from erratic eating habits and sedentary lifestyle, obesity may also commence due to hormonal changes occurring in the female body.Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or PCOD is one of the most common female endocrine disorders affecting women of reproductive age (12–45 years old) and is thought to be one of the leading causes of female subfertility.

The principal features are obesity, anovulation (resulting in irregular menstruation) or amenorrhea, acne, and excessive amounts or effects of androgenic hormones. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly among women. While the causes are unknown, insulin resistance and obesity are all strongly correlated with PCOS.

Where PCOS is associated with overweight or obesity, successful weight loss is probably the most effective method of restoring normal ovulation/menstruation, but many women go for self planned crash diets which are rather a bad idea. Customized diets and sustained regular exercise may help. Some experts recommend a low GI diet.

Reducing insulin resistance by improving insulin sensitivity through medications, have been an obvious approach and initial studies seemed to show effectiveness. For proper medication and guided counseling on PCOD one should approach a gynecologist who would address your medical history and suggest medication suited to your body type
